The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila has expressed his displeasure over Governor Dapo Abiodun’s recent remarks that appeared to limit the late Afenifere leader Pa Adebanjo’s influence to Ogun State politics.

During coverage by Symfoni TV, Gbajabiamila expressed strong disagreement with the governor’s characterization. “When I listened to the governor speaking, he spoke so well and eloquently about Pa Adebanjo, until he got to the point when he was talking about Ogun State,” he said. “Please don’t belittle Baba; Baba was bigger than Ogun State, way bigger. Baba was Nigeria, Baba was Africa, Baba was the world, in terms of principles.”

Drawing a parallel to civil rights history, Gbajabiamila quoted Martin Luther King Jr.: “You do not judge a man by the color of his skin,” adding, “in this case, the state of his origin, ‘but by the content of his character.’

He emphasized the widespread impact of Adebanjo’s legacy, noting, “It is the content of Baba’s character that has made everybody, from the North, from the South, from the East, from the West, begin to pour encomium, and begin to speak well about him. And I’m sure you all read the President’s statement, which cut very deep to the core of who Pa Adebanjo was.”

Pa Adebanjo passed away on February 14, just 55 days short of his 96th birthday. The renowned nationalist and first-generation Awoist dedicated his life to advocating for true federalism, resource control, and restructuring. His final days were marked by his principled stance supporting southeastern Nigeria’s presidential aspirations in the 2023 election. Family members reported that the elder statesman died peacefully.
