Robinson Nname Ewor, a senior member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has claimed that he is now the acting chairman of the party in the state. This comes after a court order barred Aaron Chukwuemeka and his group from claiming to be the party’s leaders.
During an interview with Channels Television from 1.45, Mr. Ewor explained how he became the rightful leader. He said that in 2020, Desmond Akowo was the chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka was the deputy chairman, and he served as the vice chairman for the Rivers West Senatorial District. According to PDP rules, if the chairman and deputy chairman are unavailable, the vice chairman of Rivers west senatorial district takes over.
Mr. Ewor said their tenure ended in July last year, and the PDP at the national level asked them to remain as caretakers for three months without changing the leadership list. However, Aaron Chukwuemeka, with the support of the FCT Minister, removed him and others who were loyal to Governor Fubara from the list and made changes.
Ewor and his group decided to challenge this in court instead of reacting aggressively. He revealed that the court had ordered that no congresses (party elections) should take place in Rivers State until the issue was resolved. Despite this, Aaron Chukwuemeka and his group, allegedly supported by Nyesom Wike, went ahead to hold the congresses, which the court later declared illegal.
Ewor thanked the court for addressing the situation and emphasized that the law is on their side. He insisted that he is the rightful acting chairman of the PDP in Rivers State.
