Sule Lamido, former Governor of Jigawa State, has spoken about the challenges former President Olusegun Obasanjo faced when seeking a second term as president.
In a live coverage by Daily Trust TV from 9:03, Lamido said Obasanjo faced opposition from members of his party and from some of his former military colleagues outside the political field. Lamido said that despite Obasanjo’s contributions to Nigeria’s stability, he faced significant humiliation during his attempt for re-election. According to Lamido, Obasanjo was subjected to embarrassing situations and he even had to kneel in a bid to secure his second term.
In Lamido’s words: “Here is somebody who had been used to knit Nigeria, who had been used to restore Nigeria and after having Nigeria restored he was now being denied his own right for a second term. Obasanjo was undermined, he was humiliated. He got second term under very humiliating and embarrassing situation. I learnt they made him kneel to beg for it”
