According to a video from 06:46 posted on Channel 4 News, on Thursday July 9, 2026, Professor Mohammad Marandi claimed that the United States lost the 39-day war it fought with Iran, describing the outcome as a clear Iranian victory.
Speaking to Channel 4 News, Marandi was asked which side held the advantage if fighting resumed.
He responded by pointing back to the earlier conflict between the two countries, arguing that the war’s ending, which led to the current memorandum of understanding, demonstrated that Iran had come out ahead despite facing a much larger military power.
He said Iran continued striking American positions until the final day of that war, and argued this showed Tehran’s ability to sustain pressure over a long period without backing down.
In his words, Professor Mohammad Marandi said, “No doubt. We already had 39 days of war. The United States was defeated.
“The Iranians were hitting them till the final day. The war began with unconditional surrender being said by Trump and it ended by accepting the Iranian 10-point peace plan,” he said.
Marandi went on to argue that the final negotiations, including the memorandum currently in dispute, reflected Iranian terms rather than American ones.
He said Trump had been forced into agreeing to a deal after the strait was closed during the earlier war, adding that if fighting resumed, Iran would once again be prepared to endure a long confrontation.
