Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has responded to recent comments made by Chief Bode George, a senior figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former military governor of Ondo State. George had reportedly called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and “call Wike to order” amid the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.
In a video shared by Channels TV from 46:42, Wike took issue with George’s remarks, questioning the credibility of his call for intervention. Wike reminded the public that Bode George had previously expressed a dramatic stance during the election season, stating that he would leave Nigeria if Tinubu won the presidency.
Wike expressed disbelief over the contradiction in George’s position. He pointed out that the same individual who had vowed to leave the country if Tinubu ascended to the presidency was now asking the president to control his actions. This, Wike argued, reflected a lack of consistency in George’s statements and political behavior.
While Wike questioned the authenticity of George’s statement, he did not rule out the possibility that it might have been true. He pointed to the irony of a person who had once threatened to leave the country now taking on the role of advising the president about his behavior.
The political rift between Wike and Bode George appears to highlight deeper divisions within the PDP, especially regarding how party leaders align themselves with the current political order. For Wike, this contradiction in George’s position seemed to undermine the validity of his public demand for intervention.
According to him: “I read on pages of Newspaper that Bode George said Tinubu should call me to order. If he truly said so how do I take it? This is a man who said if Tinubu wins he will leave the country. I don’t believe he said so but assuming he said so how will I take it. A man who said if Tinubu becomes President he will leave the country and it is the same man who is now telling Tinubu to call me to order”.
