Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung, has raised concerns about the difference between the executive and legislative arms of government in Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview from 04:30  on Trust TV, Dalung commented on what he described as the level of alignment between the National Assembly and the presidency.

“In this current National Assembly, there is almost nothing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants that will not be done,” Dalung said, drawing attention to the perceived influence of the executive.

His remarks come amid ongoing debates about the independence of the legislature and its role in providing checks and balances within Nigeria’s democratic system.

Dalung suggested that the present situation reflects a broader pattern in which the National Assembly appears to act in close agreement with the priorities of the executive branch.

He noted that such a development raises questions about the strength of institutional autonomy and the ability of lawmakers to independently scrutinize government policies.

The former minister further implied that the relationship between both arms of government may be limiting robust debate on key national issues.

According to him, the effectiveness of democracy relies heavily on the willingness of institutions to operate within their defined roles without undue influence.
