In an exclusive interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today FROM 16:21, Segun Sowunmi, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shared his thoughts on the political crisis in Rivers State and the feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Sowunmi remarked on the growth of Governor Fubara, expressing amusement at the rapid transformation in his public demeanor. “I listened to the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and I begin to smile,” Sowunmi said. “A couple of weeks ago, he looked like someone who wouldn’t even talk, and suddenly, the man is beginning to come out.”
His statement reflects the growing confidence and assertiveness of Fubara, who has recently become more vocal in his role as governor. Sowunmi expressed satisfaction with this development, suggesting it marked a positive step in Fubara’s political journey.
Shifting focus to former Governor Nyesom Wike, Sowunmi refrained from offering any new critique, instead emphasizing Wike’s political consistency. He noted that there was nothing Wike had said or done that deviated from his long-established pattern. “You can’t ask me to say anything about former Governor Nyesom Wike because there’s nothing he says, there’s nothing he has done, that is not representative of how he is,” Sowunmi stated.
According to Sowunmi, Wike remains the same forceful figure who speaks his truth, regardless of popular opinion. “He hasn’t sung any new song which he hasn’t sung before when he was the darling boy of PDP. He has not addressed the press in any way other than what he has always been doing,” he added, reaffirming that Wike’s political style has remained unchanged over the years.
Sowunmi concluded by underscoring the importance of respecting Wike’s perspective, even when one disagrees with his stance. “He has the capability to speak his own truth. You don’t have to agree, but you must respect that whatever it is he’s saying, is the truth as he sees it,” Sowunmi said, offering a measured acknowledgment of Wike’s candor and consistency in the political landscape.
