PDP chieftain Jaafar Bello has expressed concern over the treatment of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, saying the North played a major role in supporting the emergence of a southern president despite political challenges at the time.

Speaking during an interview from 18:54 on Trust TV, Bello stated that political leaders who made sacrifices in the interest of national unity and democratic stability should be treated with fairness and respect regardless of differences that may emerge later in the political space.

“The North still came with people like Nasir El-Rufai, who, against all odds, stood for a southern presidency. But look at the treatment the southern presidency is giving him now. He has been incarcerated for an alleged offense. His bail conditions have been set in such a way that they cannot be met.”

He noted that the contribution of northern political figures toward the success of a southern presidency reflected a commitment to national balance and cooperation, adding that such efforts should encourage stronger unity across different regions of the country.
