Commercial drivers have continued to express concern over the impact of rising fuel prices on Nigeria’s transport sector, saying the increasing cost of petrol has forced many operators to raise transport fares in order to remain in business.
Speaking during an interview from 0:26 with TRUST TV, commercial driver Kabiru Mohammed said the high cost of fuel now consumes almost all the revenue generated from trips.
According to him, drivers transporting passengers to Gusau make about ₦41,000 from a trip, but nearly the entire amount is spent on fuel. He added that drivers are also forced to purchase fuel again for return trips to Kaduna at even higher prices.
Mohammed noted that the situation has placed significant financial pressure on commercial drivers and contributed to the steady rise in transportation costs across the country.
He said, “The cost of petrol is really affecting us as commercial drivers. We carry passengers to Gusau, and the total fare is about ₦41,000, but we spend almost all of it on fuel. On a return trip to Kaduna, we still have to buy fuel again at an even higher price.”….Read_More…
