According to a report by The Cable on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the husband of Mary Akanbi, one of the teachers who were kidnapped when terrorists attacked schools in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, said he would gladly give himself to the terrorists to save his wife and their 18-month-old child.
The victim’s husband said the families of those in captivity are the only people left in the community, with no security personnel and no protection at all. He added that most of the security personnel who attempted the rescue mission were killed.
He said he is still in the same community where his family was kidnapped. He urged the terrorists to come for him instead, saying they have already taken everything from him and ruined his life.
