The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has questioned the motives of those advocating for protests, suggesting that their own families might not be affected by the issues they rally against. He cautioned that these agitators might flee the country if problems escalate, leaving others to deal with the consequences.

He argued that as traditional rulers it is their duty to protect public assets and maintain stability. He urged Nigerians to prioritize patriotism and refrain from actions that could harm the country. He pointed out that the global inflation crisis affects everyone and that citizens should focus on constructive solutions rather than destructive actions.

He said in an interview with Channels TV from 19:45, ”What we traditional rulers are after is that we should not destroy our country by ourselves. This is a global inflation and it is everywhere. We should be very sensitive about it, we should love our country more than anything. We should focus on true patriotism. And also we that are the owners of the country and the people of Nigeria, we are also the problem. And I will give you an example, I did something in my community because we have a lot of middlemen and associations causing market price hike. I went out and broke the ranks of all of them, you will not believe that prices in the market crashed more than 33% within a day.

And we were able to sustain that over the cause of a month within the community. If we continue with such advocacy, we would realize that everything we put in government hands can actually be handled by us. It’s not the government that is causing the price hike, it is we the people that is even the problem of ourselves. All the people that are agitating for protest, ask them where are their own children? Are they in public schools? Maybe when the problem starts, they will look for how to run away from this country but we do not have any where to run to. We are traditional rulers and we must ensure that public assets are not destroyed.”….Sêe_Morē
