Barakat Odunuga, an aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly seat in Surulere Constituency 1, has said that all other contenders in the race have stepped down and thrown their weight behind her as the consensus candidate except the incumbent lawmaker Honourable Desmond Elliot.

Speaking from 1:21 on Channels TV, Odunuga said, “There is quite a lot of politicking that went on during this whole time that we are both contesting, myself, and the incumbent. We have about five or six people who are contesting, but the other aspirants have stepped down and are supporting me now but the only person has not succumb and he is still insisting on going to the primaries is Honourable Desmond Elliot.”

Odunuga acknowledged that this is not her first attempt at the seat, having previously contested in 2023 and lost to the incumbent. She said the people of Surulere have since encouraged her to try again, and she is running on the strength of that public backing.
