In a recent interview from 3:20 on Channels Television, Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, spoke about coalition-building, national unity, and the evolving structure of opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
During the interview, Okonkwo stated, “By 2027, the North, South, and everyone will be coming together and backing the ADC.” He made the remark while expressing confidence that the African Democratic Congress is positioning itself as a broad-based coalition platform capable of uniting diverse political interests across the country.
Okonkwo explained that the ADC’s strength lies in its ability to bring together political actors from different regions, backgrounds, and ideological leanings under one umbrella. According to him, the party is not designed as a regional platform but as a national coalition movement aimed at offering Nigerians an alternative political direction.
He further argued that growing dissatisfaction with governance, economic conditions, and insecurity would push more political stakeholders toward coalition arrangements ahead of the 2027 elections. The ADC chieftain maintained that this political momentum would naturally expand the party’s influence across all geopolitical zones.
Okonkwo also emphasized that successful coalition politics requires compromise, discipline, and a shared vision. He stated that internal democracy within the ADC would allow all aspirants to contest freely while ensuring that unity is maintained after a candidate emerges through a transparent process.
He noted that opposition fragmentation has historically weakened attempts to unseat incumbents in Nigeria, adding that the ADC coalition aims to avoid such pitfalls by prioritizing collective strength over individual ambition. According to him, this approach is essential for building a credible and competitive opposition platform.
He concluded by reiterating his belief that the 2027 political landscape will be defined by broad alliances rather than isolated party efforts, stressing that a united ADC could become a central force in shaping Nigeria’s next political direction….Read_More…
