Kenneth Okonkwo has reacted strongly to the growing political tension between supporters of Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview from 8:41 on Channels Television on Thursday, May 14, 2026, Okonkwo accused Obi’s supporters of unfairly portraying Atiku as someone unfit to lead the country despite the role he allegedly played in Obi’s rise on the national political stage.
According to Okonkwo, the current political atmosphere being created by some loyal supporters of Peter Obi is becoming increasingly toxic and divisive. He argued that political disagreements should not lead to attempts to discredit or diminish the contributions of other major political figures in the country.
While expressing his concerns during the interview, Okonkwo stated that Atiku had once provided Obi with an important platform that elevated him to national relevance, making the present criticism from Obi’s camp appear ungrateful and unfair.
In his words, “After Atiku had brought you out to National politics, you are now creating the impression with your toxic followers that Atiku is not qualified to be President.”
