According to a report by The Sun, on Thursday May 14, 2026, former Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has stated that divisions among Nigeria’s leading opposition figures are strengthening the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎Oshiomhole stated that opposition leaders such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi are engaged in public disagreements that are weakening their chances of challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

‎He explained that the constant criticism among them is distracting from building a united political platform, according to him, instead of focusing on how to defeat the APC, the opposition figures are busy attacking one another.

‎He noted that Atiku has repeatedly criticized Obi, while Obi has also responded with attacks on Amaechi, he added that Amaechi has also described both Atiku and Obi as regional politicians, while presenting himself as a national figure.

‎Oshiomhole stated that these exchanges show a lack of unity and clear direction within the opposition, he argued that this situation is giving the APC an advantage even before the campaign period begins.

‎He suggested that the opposition has not presented clear policy alternatives to Nigerians, he said that without clear plans, voters may find it difficult to trust their intentions.

‎The former APC national chairman questioned whether opposition leaders would reverse major government reforms such as fuel subsidy removal, tax changes, and student loan policies, he said they have not clearly explained their positions on these issues.

‎Oshiomhole maintained that the opposition coalition appears to be driven more by personal ambition than shared ideology, he added that this weak foundation makes it difficult for them to compete effectively against the ruling party.
