Former member of the House of Representatives, Chief Igbonna Nwuke, has criticised the reported peace agreement linked to the political crisis in Rivers State involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking during an interview from 6:57  on Signature TV, Nwuke said any peace deal should allow all parties involved to feel respected and treated fairly. According to him, a true mediator should ensure that no side is humiliated during negotiations.

He questioned reports claiming that part of the agreement reached in the presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was that Fubara would not seek a second term in office. Nwuke argued that such an arrangement would go against the constitutional rights of individuals to contest elections.

The former lawmaker also expressed concern over what he described as the federal government’s suspicious role in the Rivers political crisis. He said many people in Rivers State believe the alleged agreements were unfair and heavily favoured one side.

Nwuke further stated that it appears the President sees Wike as the strongest political figure in Rivers State. However, he added that everyone has the right to choose their political allies and friendships.
