Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has reacted to reports surrounding the killing of a part-time student of the University of Benin at the institution’s Ugbowo campus main gate.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Sunday shortly after the student completed his semester examinations, has generated widespread reactions on social media and among members of the university community.
According to reports circulating online, the victim, said to be a part-time Political Science student, was allegedly shot dead while inside his vehicle near the main entrance of the campus.
Reacting to the development, Olayinka shared the report on social media, drawing attention to the growing concerns over insecurity and violence linked to cult-related activities around tertiary institutions.
The management of the University of Benin reportedly distanced the institution’s students and staff from the incident, stating that preliminary information suggested the killing was connected to alleged cult clashes outside the university environment.
The institution maintained that the incident did not occur within the academic activities of the school and urged the public not to associate the university community with criminal activities.
