According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, on Sunday May 10, 2026, Dr. Umar Ardo, a promoter of the proposed All Democratic Alliance (ADA), has rejected claims that his legal action against the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was driven by anger over ADA’s own registration challenges.
He stated that the suggestion that he is bitter because ADA was not recognised despite meeting all requirements is wrong, according to him, his position is based on principle and not frustration.
Ardo explained that his experience with the political registration process actually showed a deeper problem in the system, he argued that ADA followed all required constitutional and regulatory steps but was still denied registration.
He compared this with the case of the NDC, which he claimed did not go through the proper process but still received recognition, he maintained that this situation raises serious concerns about fairness in political party registration in the country.
Ardo stated that the issue is not personal, he stressed that his concern is about protecting due process and ensuring that all political groups are treated equally under the law.
He warned that if rules are ignored in one case, it could affect the entire democratic system, according to him, allowing irregular recognition of political parties could weaken public trust in electoral institutions.
He insisted that his legal challenge should not be seen as an attempt to gain advantage for ADA in the political space, instead, he described it as a necessary step to correct what he sees as a structural problem in the way political parties are admitted into the system.
