The Osun State Police Command said detectives arrested an armed robbery and murder suspect, Adebayo, two months after he allegedly killed a commercial motorcyclist, Tiamiyu Afeez, by slitting his throat and stealing his motorcycle, as reported by Nigerian TRIBUNE.

According to the police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, a relative of the deceased reported on February 23 that Afeez, who left home on February 21 for commercial motorcycle operations in Ede, never returned.

He said the family later learnt that a police patrol team from Awo Division discovered an unidentified corpse along the Ojo/Ara-Ejigbo Road with its throat slit. The corpse was later identified as Afeez’s, prompting a murder investigation by the SCID Homicide Section.

Ojelabi stated that intelligence-led investigation and technology analysis led to Adebayo’s arrest on April 18, 2026, while the deceased’s stolen Bajaj motorcycle and two ignition keys were recovered from him.

The suspect reportedly confessed that he lured Afeez to the Ara-Ejigbo area through a phone call, attacked him with a knife from behind, slit his throat and fled with the motorcycle. He also admitted disposing of the knife and the victim’s phone.

Adebayo, aged 29, in an interview with Saturday Tribune, made these disclosures: “I’m an electrician from Ede town. It is true that I killed Tiamiyu, popularly known as ‘Olode.’ What happened was that about four years ago, he stopped me at about 4a.m., asking me about my destination.

“I told him I was going to the bank. This was at a period of ‘no cash’, and customers used to sleep near their banks to be able to collect the little amount they could get. I decided to join them on queue.

“However, on the way, on Oke Egan Road, I met Afeez and another night guard, and he accused me of being one of those that were severing people’s heads, asking why I would be going to the bank at such an odd hour. I told him that I was heading to the bank, but he did not listen to me.

“He asked for the items I had in my pocket, and when he checked, he saw my two phones and some money. He collected the phones and took me to the police station.”

The suspect told the police that after taking him to the station years earlier, Afeez accused him of being involved in ritual killings. He said he pleaded with the officers, who later granted him bail, but claimed his phones and money were never returned because Afeez allegedly failed to hand them over.

He explained that although he intended to confront Afeez over the issue, they did not meet again until February during Ramadan, when he saw him riding a motorcycle. According to him, he stopped Afeez, reminded him of their past encounter and asked about his missing phones, but Afeez allegedly treated the matter as a joke.

The suspect said he collected Afeez’s phone number under the pretext of using his commercial motorcycle service, but admitted that he already had evil intentions because the loss of his phones had affected his electrical business and left him struggling financially.

He further disclosed that he sometimes worked as a labourer and also practised traditional medicine in the guise of being an Alfa, adding that some internet fraudsters patronised him for rituals. He claimed the practice was inherited from his ancestors, although his late father, who was a lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University before his death in 2002, did not practise it.

The suspect also said that while attending Quranic school, some Yahoo boys approached him for rituals, which made him see the trade as lucrative. He added that friends from both Quranic and secondary school encouraged him to continue making charms for internet fraudsters, although he eventually stopped because his electrical work brought in more money….Read_More…
