Dr. Charles Omole, author of From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, has suggested that Nigerians may only see the “real” leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if he secures a second term in office in 2027.

Omole made the remark during an appearance on the State Affairs with Edmund Obilo from 22:14 while discussing the differences between Tinubu’s approach to governance as former governor of Lagos State and his current leadership as president.

According to him, Tinubu governed more decisively and independently during his time in Lagos, but has had to adopt a more cautious and politically balanced approach at the national level due to the complexities of federal politics and coalition management.

“Maybe we will see the real Tinubu if he wins 2027 election because he has no more election ahead of him. So the need to please people or balance the political stakes will no longer be there,” Omole said during the interview.

The political analyst argued that leaders seeking re-election often make compromises to maintain alliances and secure broader political support, especially in a country as politically diverse as Nigeria.

Tinubu, who served as governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, is widely credited by supporters for laying the foundation for the state’s economic expansion and political structure.
