Aisha Yesufu, a prominent activist and accountability advocate, has explained the reason behind her decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), saying her move was driven by loyalty to her political principal, Peter Obi.

Speaking during an interview from 2:17 on Channels TV on Friday, May 8, 2026, Yesufu said she followed Obi to the NDC because she had made a personal commitment to stand by him politically wherever he moved.

According to Yesufu, her decision was based on trust in Obi’s leadership and her belief that he represents the hope many Nigerians are seeking ahead of the 2027 elections.

“My principal had moved, and I am one person who keeps her word. I had given him my word that wherever he is, I will be there with him,” she said.

The activist-turned-politician added that Nigeria’s current challenges require people committed to good governance, accountability, and transparency to make sacrifices aimed at changing the country’s political direction.

Yesufu argued that Nigerians are yearning for leadership that prioritises the welfare of citizens, stressing that extraordinary times demand unusual approaches from political actors and supporters alike.

She maintained that every lawful step must be taken to ensure Nigeria experiences a government that reflects accountability, transparency, and effective leadership.
