According to Daily Trust, the Kano State High Court has issued a perpetual order restraining Aminu Ado Bayero and four other dethroned Emirs from parading themselves as Emirs. The ruling, delivered by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of Kano State High Court 17, also affects the Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.
Justice Aliyu’s order prohibits Bayero and the other dethroned Emirs, along with their servants, associates, and any appointees, from continuing to use the title of Emir. This ruling comes after the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf filed a case requesting the court to stop the former Emirs from parading themselves as traditional rulers. The government has also given the dethroned Emirs 48 hours to vacate their respective palaces.
The court, however, noted that the issue of evicting Aminu Ado Bayero from his Nasarawa palace should be addressed by the Rent Tribunal and not her court. Despite this, Justice Aliyu directed the dethroned Emirs to promptly hand over all Emirate Traditional Royal Artifacts to the government and the current Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
The court’s decision is grounded in the State Assembly Emirate Council Repealed Law 2024, which was enacted in accordance with Section 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Justice Aliyu confirmed that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s assent to the law was in full compliance with constitutional requirements.
This ruling marks a crucial point in the Kano Emirate crisis, emphasizing the legal recognition of the current Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and reinforcing the state’s legislative power in traditional affairs. The decision has stirred reactions across the state, reflecting the deep historical and cultural significance of the Emirate system in Kano….Seë_Morë
