Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reacted after former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, announced that President Bola Tinubu approved his redeployment as Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to South Africa.
Reacting through his X account, Sowore dismissed Fani-Kayode’s claims and questioned his suitability for a diplomatic role. He also rejected reports that any country would object to accepting him as an ambassador.
Fani-Kayode had earlier explained that he was initially nominated for a diplomatic posting to Germany before requesting a transfer to South Africa. According to him, the request was approved by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and later endorsed by President Tinubu.
The former minister said he preferred South Africa because of its political and economic importance in Africa, as well as its relationship with Nigeria. He added that the redeployment was arranged through a mutual exchange involving Senator Sam Enang, who reportedly switched from South Africa to Germany.
Fani-Kayode also denied reports claiming that Germany rejected his appointment. He described the reports as false and harmful to his reputation and the Federal Government.
