A report from News Central TV from 17:22 states that on Friday, December 5, 2025, Policy Analyst Mark Jacob has questioned the widely accepted notion that the death penalty effectively deters violent crime. He referenced his experiences supervising the execution of convicted armed robbers in Kaduna State during 2005 and 2006.

Jacob’s remarks come as advocates for capital punishment push for its use against serious offenses like kidnapping and terrorism. Drawing from his extensive knowledge, he contended that the death penalty does not dissuade criminals from pursuing their plans.

“I would like to emphasize that I was a General back in 2005 and 2006 in Kaduna State, and during that time, I personally oversaw the executions of two armed robbers,” Jacob disclosed.

He recounted the gruesome crimes of the individuals he supervised, highlighting their brutal actions. “They invaded a home, assaulted the wife and daughters in front of their husband and father, and ultimately killed everyone.”

Jacob pointed out that the convicted individuals were subjected to the full extent of the law, including exhausting all appeals before their sentences were executed. “They were apprehended, appealed all the way to the Supreme Court, and I was involved in that process,” he added.

He concluded with a strong observation from his direct involvement within the criminal justice system:

“From my extensive background, I can confidently state that the death penalty does not deter criminals from carrying out their intentions.” View, More,
