Senate President Godswill Akpabio has instituted a ₦200 billion defamation lawsuit against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations of sexual harassment. The suit was confirmed on Thursday after Akpoti-Uduaghan published court documents and an accompanying statement on her official Instagram page on Friday, December 5, 2025.

According to the certified court order dated November 6, 2025, issued by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, the court granted Akpabio leave to serve originating processes and other filings on the defendant through the Clerk of the National Assembly.

The court also deemed the substituted service as valid and proper. Reacting to the development, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan wrote: “Today being the 5th day of December, 2025, I’m in receipt of the newly instituted 200 billion naira suit against me by Senator Godswill Akpabio claiming defamation on sexual harassment.” The Kogi Central lawmaker said she welcomed the case, noting that Akpabio’s decision to approach the court would now allow her to fully present her own allegations, which she previously could not pursue due to Senate regulations.

She stated: “Now, I am glad that Sen. Akpabio has brought this up because the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges failed to grant me audience in this issue relying on the fact that Godswill Akpabio’s wife had instituted a defamatory case against me. Therefore they couldn’t attend to a matter already in court.” Akpoti-Uduaghan explained that Senate rules required her to first appear before the Ethics Committee despite the legal constraints created by the earlier suit filed by Akpabio’s wife. She said this prevented her from initiating her own court action at the time.

She continued: “Albeit, I couldn’t proceed to court because by senate rules, I must still present my case before the Ethics committee (same committee that recommended my illegal suspension).” The senator reiterated her allegations against Akpabio, saying the lawsuit now provides her an opportunity to fully present evidence. She said: “Alas, I now have a chance to prove how I was sexually harassed and how my refusal to give into his demands unleashed series of unprovoked and unprecedented attacks on my person.” Ending her statement, she added: “See you in court Godswill Akpabio.” View, More,
