Ambassador-designate and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, on Monday declared that he remains unapologetically Nigerian, a statement he shared shortly after dropping his daughter off at school.

Omokri, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, made the remark in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, amid ongoing public debate surrounding his recent nomination as an ambassador by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In the post, Omokri shared a photo taken outside his daughter’s school, accompanied by a message reaffirming his pride in his cultural identity.

“Saying bye after dropping off my daughter at school this morning. I don’t care about the place, date, or time; I must always dress as I am. And what I am is unapologetically Nigerian!” he wrote.

The comment, which has since attracted significant attention online, comes at a time when conversations about his political alignment, past roles, and future diplomatic responsibilities are dominating public discourse.

Omokri has long been known for his outspoken views on governance, democracy, and cultural consciousness. His latest post is viewed by many as both a personal affirmation and a subtle response to critics questioning his suitability for diplomatic service.

Supporters online applauded his declaration, describing it as a bold display of patriotism, especially for someone expected to represent Nigeria on the global stage. Others, however, argued that his political history and public commentary continue to spark division, thereby fuelling the conversations that now surround his nomination.

The ambassador-designate has consistently maintained a public persona deeply rooted in advocacy for Nigerian values, often appearing in traditional attire during international engagements. His Monday statement further reinforces that image, portraying him as a cultural ambassador even before formally assuming his diplomatic duties.
