Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has urged the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to remain calm as he continues engagements aimed at securing his release.

Otti gave this assurance during a visit to Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

According to the Vanguard, this was disclosed on Sunday night in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.

Otti, who was accompanied by Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu; and senior officials of the Sokoto State government, told Nnamdi Kanu that the processes he initiated more than two years ago toward resolving the issue had been strengthened despite recent developments.

The Abia State governor, however, encouraged Kanu to “remain calm but strong,” assuring him that the issue “will be resolved administratively” and that freedom would eventually be achieved.

Governor Otti also expressed satisfaction that the Sultan of Sokoto shares his view on the need for Kanu’s release and the wider effort to ease regional tensions.

Recall that on November 20, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on all seven terrorism-related charges brought by the Nigerian federal government.

Governor Otti, however, in a statement released on Saturday, revealed that he had already taken steps toward Kanu’s release, even while the legal proceedings were still ongoing.

He also mentioned that during his visit to Kanu, in Abuja, he shared updates on discussions held with “the highest authorities” in the country.

Governor Otti said, “While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated and will continue to work on the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured.” View, More,
