Senate President Godswill Akpabio has disclosed that bandits abducted students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi State just 30 minutes after military troops withdrew from the premises.
Speaking in a media coverage by Symfoni TV from 6:27, Akpabio explained that authorities had received advance warning of the attack. “The Kebbi governor was crying out that they had credible intelligence that the school was being targeted by bandits. They even gave notice that they were on the way. And so soldiers and security services went to the school. I’ve seen pictures,” he said.
The Senate President revealed that troops had trained students on survival tactics before the abduction occurred. “They brought out the children and taught them how to defend themselves. And I’ve seen those pictures that the moment those bandits arrive, what you will do is as soon as you notice that we have come, you go down on the floor so that you will not get caught up by the crossfire. So they went to sleep. By 4am, the soldiers withdrew; 30 minutes after, the bandits entered and operated unfettered,” Akpabio stated.
Despite the timing raising questions, Akpabio suggested the troop withdrawal may not indicate complicity with the attackers. He alluded that the soldiers might have simply returned to their base after maintaining an overnight security presence at the school. View, More,
