During a heated Senate debate on national security, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe raised serious concerns about the recent kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State. He argued that the government must take stronger and more decisive steps to protect citizens, especially children who are at risk in remote communities.
In a video shared by Viable TV from 2.33, Abaribe explained that the Kebbi State governor had revealed a troubling detail: troops who were supposed to protect the area were mysteriously withdrawn shortly before the attack. This sudden withdrawal opened the door for kidnappers to strike, leaving many families devastated and searching for answers. According to the senator, nobody has explained why the troops left or who gave the order, and that silence is part of the problem.
He emphasized that leadership requires taking bold action when things go wrong. He said that if he were the Commander-in-Chief, he would immediately summon the army commander responsible for the area and the overall head of the army. His message would be direct: find out who issued the order that exposed the schoolgirls to danger and hold that individual fully accountable. For him, this is how a serious nation handles issues of national security.
Abaribe warned that countries do not progress by avoiding tough decisions. Instead, they must confront failures, correct mistakes, and ensure that such lapses never happen again.
In his words, “If I’m the Commander in Chief, I will call the army commander in that place and the head of the army, and say, if you don’t get me the head of this person, who withdrew the troops to put all these children in jeopardy.” View, More,
