Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State and a prominent voice in the National Assembly, has alleged that both international and local actors are behind the rising wave of terrorism and banditry in Nigeria. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television from 7:15, Kalu asserted that the country’s security challenges are not organic but deliberately engineered to weaken the federal government.

According to him, the pattern of killings, kidnappings, and violent attacks suggests a coordinated strategy aimed at destabilising President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He claimed that “the terrorists and the bandits are orchestrated by some members of the international community and local people who really want to destabilize government,” emphasising that the insecurity problem has political undertones rather than mere criminal motivations.

Kalu suggested that similar forces manipulated insecurity in previous administrations and warned that the nation risked repeating a cycle in which violence becomes a political tool. Although he did not name specific individuals or countries, he insisted that both foreign interests and local collaborators benefit from the country’s instability.

Despite his alarming assessment, Kalu expressed confidence in the government’s response. He praised President Tinubu for prioritising national security, noting that the president had cancelled several official engagements to focus squarely on addressing the crisis. He also reassured Nigerians that efforts were ongoing to rescue abducted victims across the country, including schoolchildren caught in recent attacks. View, More,
