According to a recent video from 18:40 shared by Viable TV, Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central has reiterated the persistent efforts made by Southeast leaders to secure a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions surrounding the detention and conviction of Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking during the interview, Senator Umeh emphasized that contrary to public perception, regional leaders have remained actively engaged in seeking solutions that would restore calm and stability across the Southeast. He stressed that dialogue, consultations, and direct engagements with key government officials have been ongoing for years, reflecting the seriousness with which the issue is being handled.
Umeh noted that several meetings were held with the Attorney General of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, and other top government figures as part of these efforts. He expressed concern that despite these interventions, little progress had been made toward achieving meaningful relief for the region.
In his words, “We have not been sleeping; we’ve been following this matter all over to see how we can find a peaceful resolution.”
The senator explained that the insecurity in the Southeast has continued to escalate partly because many individuals anchor their grievances on the continued detention of Kanu. He stressed that addressing this single issue could open the door to wider reconciliation, renewed trust, and long-term peace building.
Umeh also appealed to the federal government to adopt dialogue-driven approaches, similar to those previously used in other regions, urging leaders to apply lessons from history when addressing sensitive national concerns. View, More,
