The founder and presiding pastor of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has expressed concern over rising insecurity in Nigeria, lamenting what he described as misplaced national priorities amid ongoing violence.
Speaking during a recent sermon shared on YouTube from 1:13:05, Ibiyeomie said he was disturbed by the frequency of killings across several parts of the country, while political discussions continue to focus on future elections.
“With holy anger in me, I was meditating,” he said. “People are being killed every day, yet people are talking about election next year.”
He referenced insecurity challenges in states such as Benue and Plateau, noting that many residents live in fear and are unable to carry out normal daily activities due to ongoing violence.
“People can’t sleep in Benue State. They can’t sleep in Plateau State. They can’t sleep in many states,” he stated.
The cleric criticized political discourse that prioritizes elections over human lives, warning that leadership should be centered on protecting citizens rather than political ambitions.
“Election when people’s lives are not safe? You are talking about election when you are not talking about the life of people,” he said.
He further expressed frustration over what he described as a lack of long-term thinking among political actors, contrasting politicians with statesmen who prioritize future generations.
“Statesmen think of the next generation. Politicians think of election,” he said, adding that true leadership should focus on lasting peace and national stability.
