In an interview with TVC News from 1:33, Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, has revealed that they noticed something went wrong the moment they saw the pilot was doing something unusual and the aircraft conveying them from Angola to Nigeria suddenly began to descend midair.

It was earlier reported that the Super Eagles’ arrival in Uyo for a match against Benin Republic was delayed after a cracked windscreen in midair damaged the plane carrying the team.

In this recent interview, Efoghe explained that during the incident, the pilot had announced that the aircraft’s windshield had shattered, forcing an emergency return to Luanda, Angola.

He said the pilot swiftly turned the aircraft around, explaining that it was unsafe to continue the flight due to the cracked windshield, which posed serious danger to everyone on board.

Despite the initial panic among passengers, the pilot assured them of a safe landing. He successfully returned the aircraft to Luanda, where everyone disembarked safely.

The airline operators were immediately notified, and arrangements were made for another aircraft to transport the team to Nigeria early Sunday morning.

Although the unexpected incident disrupted their planned training session ahead of the crucial qualifier against Benin Republic, Efoghe said the players remained calm and focused. He noted that the team would resume training upon arrival in Uyo, determined to stay prepared for Tuesday’s decisive match.

As he said, “We left Polokwane this morning, headed towards Nigeria, but there had to be a stop in Luanda to refuel. And we spent a couple of hours in Luanda and then took off from Angola.”

“25 minutes into that flight, the aircraft started descending suddenly. We noticed that the pilot was doing something unusual. He was trying to take a turn.”

“He made an announcement to everyone on board that the aircraft windshield had crashed and he needed to make an emergency landing and he has to go back to where we’re coming from, and that’s Luanda, Angola.”

“He didn’t give us details of what happened to his windshield. Of course, we know for those who understand aviation how dangerous that can be, you know, when the windshield right in front of the pilot is cracked.”

“I sent pictures of that. If you’ve seen it, I mean, you would agree with me that it was a very, very delicate situation. It wasn’t just a slice. It was a total shatter of the windshield of the aircraft.”

“So we had to make that U-turn, return to Luanda, landed the plane safely. He told everyone on board that it would be very dangerous for him to continue with that trip.” See, More, Here>>>
