Human rights advocate Saviour Imeabe Oscar has reflected on Nigeria’s current economic realities, drawing parallels between past and present leadership actions.
Oscar recalled a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Professor Wole Soyinka stood among citizens in peaceful demonstrations during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
In a video shared by Symfoni TV from 1:05, he stated, “He [Bola Ahmed Tinubu] and Professor Wole Soyinka protested against Goodluck Jonathan even when Nigeria was at a point of managing the economy, and the economy wasn’t as difficult or hard on us as it is right now. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu actually protested against the then president, requesting that he cut down the cost price of petrol,” Oscar stated.
According to the activist, this historical moment serves as a reminder of how civic engagement and leadership roles evolve over time.
He noted that while the nation then faced economic challenges, they were comparatively manageable, and such demonstrations were part of efforts to ensure better welfare for Nigerians.
Oscar emphasized that today’s economic environment calls for unity, dialogue, and shared responsibility among citizens and leaders alike. See, More, Here>>>
