A report by The Times of Israel dated April 29, 2026, states that the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, has made it clear that there is currently no ceasefire in southern Lebanon, as Israeli troops continue operations against what they identify as threats from Hezbollah.
Zamir emphasized that the military will not tolerate ongoing attacks from Hezbollah, noting that operations will continue for as long as communities in northern Israel remain at risk. He explained that Israeli forces have established a new security buffer zone and intend to stay in position until a stable and secure situation is achieved.
Speaking during a visit to Taybeh, where Israeli troops are currently stationed, Zamir said the army is carrying out directives from political leaders to hold a defensive line aimed at preventing direct attacks on Israeli communities. He added that maintaining this position may be necessary for an extended period.
He further stressed that any form of attack on Israeli territory would not be accepted, reiterating that troops will remain deployed until long-term safety for northern residents is guaranteed.
