A female teacher has stated that she narrowly escaped death in 2018 after being attacked by a man armed with a cutlass while returning from a teaching assignment
In an interview with Brekete Family from 3:06, a human rights program, she explained that the attack happened in Pegi, Kuje Area Council of Abuja around 6 p.m., when she was on her way back to her residence in 1000 Unit Estate.
According to her, a man suddenly came out of a nearby market and followed her. She said when she realized he wanted to harm her, she tried to run, but he struck her shoulder with a cutlass, breaking her shoulder bone.
The teacher said she screamed loudly, asking why he wanted to kill her, while struggling to defend herself. She said the man repeatedly struck her with the cutlass and one of her hands was cut off. She said when her handbag fell, the man bent to pick it, and she escaped.
Speaking further, she said she was later rushed to the hospital where she received treatment. She said the man who attacked her was later caught for another crime and recently sentenced to life imprisonment, including for the attack on her.
In her words: “The first thing I heard was cutlass on my shoulder bone. My shoulder bone broke, I shouted ‘Jesus, why do you want to kill me?’ I was shouting and shouting. So I was using this hand to defend myself, if he carries the cutlass up, I would raise this hand up so this hand went off and I didn’t even know. So when the handbag I was carrying fell, he bent down to carry it and that was when I got the opportunity, held my hand and ran out of the footpath” See, More, Here>>>
