During an interview on News Central TV from 5:49, chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, shared his observations following a tour of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

Sowunmi expressed admiration for the scale and quality of the construction work. “When I saw Lagos, I saw the work involved. I saw how much work they’ve done. I engaged them,” he stated, urging Nigerians not to let political differences cloud their judgment. “Do not hate your country so much until people don’t want us to build something for the next generation. That is a very well-thought-out project, well delivered,” he said.

The PDP leader provided details about the construction standards he witnessed. “I saw the way the machines were laying the concrete. It’s almost as if you are building a bridge, really. I saw the quality of materials they were using to lay it, and I asked all the tough questions,” Sowunmi recounted.

Regarding the road’s specifications, he elaborated: “What about the depth? Some of them, the depth—I put my hand like this to measure the depth—it’s like from my fingers to here.” He noted that construction is progressing simultaneously across multiple sections: “And they’re doing it on almost four, five sections at the same time. They’re doing the Calabar end, they’re doing the Lekki end going into about more than 30-something kilometers, they’re doing the Ondo-Ogun end. They’re going.”

However, Sowunmi also raised concerns about regional connectivity, particularly regarding the Southeast. “And then at a point, I said, ‘Okay, Minister (David Umahi), please, I hear that you are connecting the coastal road, but my greatest agony in this life as I became an adult is: what are you doing to the Southeast? You need to tell me, because you can’t be explaining stories and explaining stories and I get to a person that we’re running the country behind their back. How is it connected?'” he recalled.

After receiving explanations about the linkage plans, Sowunmi stated: “Then he started explaining to me, ‘We’re going to link here,’ and that road is well-built, that road is well-conceived, that road is visionary.” See, More, Here>>>
