Drawing comparisons to historic tribunals addressing atrocities in the Balkans and Rwanda, Boric emphasized that justice must be pursued through legal channels rather than violence.
“I do not want to see Netanyahu destroyed by missiles along with his family,” Boric said. “I want to see Netanyahu and those responsible for the genocide against the Palestinian people brought before an international court of justice.”
The Chilean leader condemned Israel’s military strikes in Qatar and Iran, insisting that the global community has a duty to combat hatred and reinforce multilateral mechanisms that uphold human rights. “At this point, I no longer know what to say about Gaza, because many have already spoken from this podium,” Boric said. “But above our words, the dead stares of innocent people who have lost their lives continue to speak volumes.”
Highlighting the human cost of the conflict, Boric stressed the universality of the crisis. “Today, in 2025, thousands of innocent human beings are dying simply for being Palestinians, just as millions perished 80 years ago for being Jewish,” he said. He described the situation as a global issue, framing it as a profound crisis of humanity.
Boric also noted Chile’s historical ties to the Palestinian community, which is among the largest outside Arab nations. “When children lie under rubble, there is genuine pain in our country, in Chile,” he said. He urged the international community to prioritize justice over vengeance and to channel grief into constructive action rather than hatred.
In his final address to the UN as head of state, Boric condemned all forms of violence, arguing that suffering must not fuel further animosity. “One of the challenges humanity faces is that pain often begets hatred. We must confront this cycle, transform impulses for revenge into a pursuit of justice, and make no concessions to violence,” he said.
Boric also criticized US President Donald Trump for denying climate change, emphasizing the importance of confronting falsehoods. “While I respect the diversity of opinions, I must confront lies knowingly spread, such as denying global warming,” Boric said. “This is not an opinion it is a falsehood, and we must actively fight against it.” See, More, Here>>>>
