According to a report published by Punch on September 18, 2025, Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has responded to activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, over his comments calling President Bola Tinubu a “criminal.”

Sowore had tweeted a video of Tinubu during a visit to Brazil, claiming the President said there was no corruption in Nigeria. Following the tweet, the Department of State Services (DSS) filed criminal charges against Sowore for defamation, citing violations of Nigeria’s Cybercrimes and Terrorism Prevention laws. The DSS also requested that social media platforms X and Meta remove the tweet, describing it as a threat to national security. Sowore refused to delete it, claiming the DSS was attempting to silence dissent.

Speaking at the flag-off of the Arterial Road N1 construction in Wuye, Wike said Sowore was fortunate to have a President who respects the rule of law. He remarked: “No matter how you see people criticise Trump, have you ever seen any American citizen on social media, or in the public, say our President is a criminal? Have you heard that?”

Wike also addressed the indefinite strike by the FCT Chapter of the Association of Resident Doctors, assuring that the N25 billion health budget for 2025 would be implemented according to procedure. He urged patience regarding the employment of doctors and payment of allowances, emphasizing that all actions must follow due process.
