Hamas has declared that Israel’s recent strike in Doha, which targeted members of its leadership, will not influence the group’s stance on ending the Gaza war.
In a televised statement, Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said the attack specifically targeted the organization’s negotiation team while they were discussing a ceasefire plan presented by US President Donald Trump.
“This crime was nothing less than an assassination of the entire negotiation process,” Barhoum stated, accusing Washington of being a “full accomplice” in the operation.
According to Barhoum, the strike hit the home of Khalil al-Hayya, the head of Hamas’s negotiating delegation.
While al-Hayya survived, his wife and daughter-in-law were injured, and his son Himam al-Hayya was killed. Several other relatives were also wounded.
Despite the attack, no senior members of the movement have been confirmed dead.
According to Times of Israel, Barhoum stressed that Hamas’s demands remain unchanged: a complete halt to Israeli military operations, a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, a genuine prisoner exchange deal, and international backing for Gaza’s reconstruction.
He argued that the attack was an attempt by Israel to project a false image of victory after nearly two years of conflict without achieving its stated goals.
“The failed attempt to eliminate our leadership will not alter our positions,” Barhoum said, reaffirming the group’s commitment to its conditions for a ceasefire.
The strike comes amid ongoing uncertainty over the effectiveness of Israel’s operations against Hamas leaders based abroad.
While some Israeli officials have expressed doubt over the success of the Doha strike, Hamas has sought to frame the attack as both a failure for Israel and proof of US complicity.
