Former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has stated that President Bola Tinubu may face a difficult battle in the 2027 election if key opposition leaders join forces, as reported by Daily Post on Friday, 5 September, 2025.
Tambuwal named former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso as potential candidates who could form a strong opposition.
He said that if they decide to run together or coordinate their efforts, Tinubu would find it very hard to win.
The Sokoto South Senator spoke during an interview on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, on Friday.
He explained that a united opposition would change the election dynamics and could influence how Nigerians vote.
According to Tambuwal, forming a coalition is the best strategy for opposition leaders.
He said such an alliance would strengthen their chances and make it easier to challenge the ruling party.
He said the presence of experienced politicians like Jonathan, Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso in a coalition would shift voters’ preferences.

Tambuwal stated that the combination of their influence and experience could be decisive in the election outcome.
“It will be easier for the opposition to form an alliance to defeat Tinubu but if Tinubu, Jonathan, Atiku, Peter Obi, and Kwankwaso run in the same election that would be difficult for Tinubu to win.
When this happens the dynamics will be different and a lot of things will change the way people will vote,” he said.
