‎The National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, spoke on President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the chances of an Igbo presidency, during an interview with Punch on Sunday, 17 August, 2025.

‎Prof. Muhammad-Baba said the North may not fully accept Peter Obi, especially because of his promise to serve only one term and step aside in 2031.

‎He described the pledge as “politically naive” and “unserious.”

‎He noted that the promise is not a constitutional requirement. He said a president who performs well should be allowed to seek re-election.

According to him, a one-term pledge is a weak campaign strategy.

‎He reminded that former President Buhari also promised one term but ended up serving more.

‎Muhammad-Baba said Obi should focus on real policies, competence, justice, and equity.

‎He argued that Nigerians should be allowed to continue good governance if a president earns their confidence.

‎”Let me start with this one-term promise. Honestly, I find it unserious and politically naive. Peter Obi has said that his one-term pledge is an ideal. But let’s be clear it’s not a constitutional provision. And frankly, to me, it’s a defeatist campaign strategy,” he said.
