Former Kaduna State Senator Shehu Sani wants lawyers to turn their social media pages into classrooms where Nigerians learn the legal weight of their everyday choices.
He made the call in a Facebook post, using a disturbing hotel incident to press home his point.
Sani recounted how a guest died in a hotel, and the woman who was with him reportedly picked up his phone and walked away once she realised he was no longer alive.
He also alleged that the hotel’s workers moved the corpse out of the room and abandoned it under a bridge.
Those actions, according to the former lawmaker, raise serious legal questions that many Nigerians may not even consider.
He then challenged lawyers who run social media accounts to consistently enlighten the public on the legal implications of their conduct.
Sani reminded Nigerians that pleading ignorance of the law offers no protection, saying, “Please, If you are a lawyer with a Social Media handle,occasionally use it to enlighten most people on the legal implication of most of their action. Its said ignorance of the law is not an excuse.”
