Defense Minister Israel Katz announced Sunday that terrorist threats originating from the West Bank have fallen by 80% in recent months, attributing the drop to the Israel Defense Forces’ more aggressive counterterrorism approach.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Katz described Jenin, Tulkarm, and the Nur Shams refugee camp as long-standing “hotbeds of terrorism” built with Iranian funding, weapons, and operational guidance.

According to Jerusalem Post, he alleged that these areas had served as a strategic extension of Iran’s Axis of Resistance, aimed at opening a new front against Israel.

According to Katz, the IDF shifted tactics under his direction, moving from sporadic raids to sustained military pressure.

The new policy includes evacuating civilians from conflict zones, eliminating armed operatives, dismantling weapons caches, and destroying militant infrastructure.

Israeli forces will reportedly remain deployed in these camps until at least the end of 2025 to prevent their reestablishment.

“This is the correct model for fighting terrorism,” Katz stated.

“We must strike and pursue it—in the West Bank, in Gaza, and wherever it operates.”

While Katz presented the figures as proof of success, Palestinian officials and human rights groups have previously condemned such operations, arguing they cause civilian displacement and exacerbate tensions.

Independent verification of the claimed 80% reduction was not immediately available.

The announcement comes amid heightened security measures across the West Bank and growing political debate in Israel over the scope and duration of military operations in Palestinian territories.
