One of the chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Segun Showunmi has sent a message to the former governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike and other chieftains in PDP who have been openly declaring support for the ruling party to stop engaging in such act.
This was contained in a post that he shared on his official X handle on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
His statement is coming after PDP chieftains like the FCT Minister, governor of Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke and former governor of Ekiti state, Peter Fayose declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the forthcoming presidential election in 2027.
Segun Showunmi described the act as something that doesn’t make any sense. He said anybody who wants to support an opposition candidate should leave PDP. He said the act doesn’t strengthen democracy.
Here is what Segun Showunmi wrote on his official X handle;
“Party democracy must never become so weak that party leaders will stand on the party podium and scream I will vote for the opposition candidate! If you desire to do so, you must leave the party or get expelled!”.
