FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has declared his intention to remain in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to prevent what he described as opportunistic politicians from capturing the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.

Speaking in a media parley reported by Channels TV, Wike used strong language to characterize those he believes would exploit his departure from the party. “I said I’m going to remain in PDP, and which I’m still in PDP, and that’s why I’m saying that the right thing must be done. I will not leave this party, which I have done everything for, and then leave it for the buccaneers and vampires. If I have left the party, the buccaneers and vampires would have remained to come and collect the ticket,” he stated.

The FCT Minister addressed misconceptions about his role in facilitating Senator Sam Anyanwu’s continued role as PDP National Secretary, emphasizing his commitment to proper procedures rather than personal preferences. “Now, let us get it clear. I never insisted that Sam Anyanwu must be the National Secretary of the party. I insisted that the right thing must be done. If the right thing is to be done, it is that the law must take its place, and so be it. And now, the law has taken its place,” Wike explained.

The FCT Minister acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s characterization of the PDP as a “sinking ship,” agreeing that the opposition party faces significant internal problems.

Wike argued that the leading opposition party’s issues over the past few years since President Tinubu’s administration began have been self-inflicted and resulted in the departure of key party stakeholders.

According to Wike, party leaders who were primarily interested in obtaining PDP candidacy tickets have left the party after discovering there are no available positions for them in the 2027 elections.
