According to a report by Daily Post News on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Veteran Nigerian singer, Alexander Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has revealed a harrowing experience he endured in 2010, which he described as a “spiritual attack” that nearly claimed his life.
Speaking during a recent appearance on *The Nancy Isime Show*, the ‘Gongo Aso’ hitmaker said he vomited blood continuously for six months. He explained that the condition was not medical and forced him to abandon his home out of fear and desperation.
“It wasn’t a medical issue,” 9ice stated. “I was vomiting blood for about six months in my own house. I had to leave. It happened in 2009/2010.”
The singer revealed that after failed attempts to find relief, he was eventually referred to an *Ifa* priest, which marked the turning point in his recovery. That experience, he said, changed his spiritual path entirely.
“I’m not a Christian or Muslim. I’m a traditionalist, a Babalawo. That was when I got to know Ifa, and I just wish I had known it earlier,” he said, expressing regret for not embracing traditional African spirituality sooner.
He also drew inspiration from the late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, who openly embraced traditional practices and was often criticized for it. “Fela used to go to Ogun, and people mocked him. But now, I understand why,” he added.
When asked how he now protects himself spiritually, 9ice confidently responded that he relies on traditional African beliefs, which have become central to his identity and way of life.
He used the opportunity to encourage Africans to reconnect with their roots, urging more people to embrace traditional religion rather than shy away from it due to societal judgment.
His candid revelations have sparked widespread discussion across social media, as fans express both shock and support for the singer’s openness and spiritual conviction.
