During an interview with Trust TV from 3:46, Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, addressed recent speculations about a rift between him and Peter Obi, the party’s presidential flagbearer in the 2023 elections. His remarks come in response to swirling rumors that he is positioning himself to replace Obi as the Labour Party’s candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.

Datti clarified that his decision to attend the Labour Party meeting of the Abure faction was for peace-building and not a power move, stressing that any suggestions of disloyalty or rivalry were being peddled by people who fear the unity between him and Obi. He suggested that these rumors are the result of calculated attempts to create division within the party’s leadership and to undermine their growing influence.

According to him, “This is only 48 hours now, and it has shaken everybody. Why are they so afraid? I went there to make peace, and they said that he wants to be the candidate. Now, who is doing that? There’s somebody out there who is afraid, there’s somebody out there who wishes to create disunity between my boss and me, but look, we’re too honorable, we are too smart, and we’re too close for that to happen. I have clearly said I’m in support of Peter Obi to contest 2027.”
