Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Maduabuchi recently spoke on Arise Television from 8:07, about the court’s decision regarding the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Nigerian Senate.
He explained that the court declared Natasha’s suspension “excessive” and said she should return to her seat. According to Maduabuchi, this kind of court declaration is not just an opinion — it is a legal order based on rights given by law. “A declaration in court means the law gives you a right, and the court is confirming it,” he said.
However, Maduabuchi also noted a possible challenge Natasha may face. Even though the court said she should go back to the Senate, the Senate may not act immediately. He said the Sergeant-at-Arms, the officer in charge of security at the Senate, might stop her from entering, claiming he hasn’t seen the court judgment yet.
“If she comes, she must be given access by the Sergeant-at-Arms, who will say no, because I’ve not seen the judgment,” Maduabuchi stated.
This means that even though Natasha has the legal right to return to her job, delays can still happen because some people may want to confirm the judgment first.
