In an interview with Arise Television 10:09, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda reflected on the lifestyle and choices of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari after leaving office. Radda’s remarks shed light on the quiet and principled way Buhari chose to live following his presidency—one that stood in contrast to the more politically visible paths taken by his predecessors.

Governor Radda noted that Buhari deliberately distanced himself from the seat of power in Abuja and never attempted to remain in the political spotlight. Rather than acquire a home in the capital or linger around the presidency, he returned to his hometown of Daura and stayed away from federal affairs. He only visited Abuja once, Radda said, and even then, he refused to sleep over.

According to him, “If you look, I think he’s the only head of state or former president of this country that does not have a house in Abuja. Since he left office for the last 2 years, he only went to Abuja once when they launched his book, and he didn’t sleep in Abuja; he came back. There was a time we asked him, “Why don’t you want to sleep or stay in Abuja?” He said, “You don’t need to have two sheriffs in town because I’m out of office, so I need to leave so that I can allow the current president to run the government smoothly as he wants and without any interference.”
